What is wrong with this simple formula?

What is wrong with this formula:

=SUM(H10:H38) - (sumH10:H15+sumH18:H19+H22+H26)

I want to add all numbers H10 thru H38, and subtract from that the sum of
(H10:H15+H18:H19+H22+H26)

The result I'm getting is #NAME?

or, if I use =SUM(H10:H38) - (H10:H15+H18:H19+H22+H26), the result I get is
#VALUE!

You are missing some paranthesis.
I think this is what you need:

=SUM(H10:H38) - (SUM(H10:H15)+SUM(H18:H19)+H22+H26)

There are a coupel of things wrong with each. The first one should be
=SUM(H10:H38) - sum(H10:H15)+sum(H18:H19)+H22+H26. You were putting
the parentheses in teh wrong spots

The second one shoudl be =SUM(H10:H38) - (Sum
(H10:H15)+H18:H19+H22+H26),

Per,

Thanks -- I don't know why I couldn't see that - duh! Need another cup of
coffee.

Did you really mean "subtract from"

=sum(h10:h15,h18:h19,h22,h26) - sum(h10:h38)

or maybe you meant:

=sum(h10:h38) - sum(h10:h15,h18:h19,h22,h26)

Yes, that is certainly the simplest!

Hello Jack,

=SUM(H16:H38) - sum(H18:H19,H22,H26)

Bernd
