what is vids:mjpg deciompressor

I have an AVI movie file that I tried to import into PowerPoint and when I
run the PPT I get an error message
video not available, cannot find'vids:MJPG' decompressor

What cause that and how can I run the movie in PPT?

You might try changing the extension from .avi to .mpg see if that helps. If
you don't see the .avi you will need to go to Windows Explorer

Tools > Folder Options > View and uncheck "Hide file extensions for known
types.."
