I think I inadvertantly deleted some files that I still need. Whenever I log
off or shutdown, I get the following 2 messages in popup windows-

uwdmtpus.exe - DLL INITIALIZATION FAILURE
pluund3d.exe - DLL INITIALIZATION FAILURE

Doese ANYONE know which programs these files are associated with so I can
fix my computer. I have noticed no other problems except the popups messages
at sign off.
Thanks for your help.
Mike

A Google search for both files turns up nothing. This is usually a good
indication that the files are part of some malware.

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Do the same for whatever anti-spyware applications that you have.

To add to what Wesley said do all scans in safe mode.

I did the Google search also before I bothered you guys. The virus scan
showed 2 viruses- Cybil.zip and foto_5321.exe. Deleted these. The spyware
showed 3 files, deleted these. The problem still exists. I did a search for
these files on my C: drive and found them both in the WINDOWS\PREFETCH
folder. Wjen I delete them, they reappear at the bottom within 3 seconds.
Any help?

Simple explanation.

Prefetch creates .pf files to make other files start faster. If a file is
started once a .pf file is created for that file. That is a way to tell if
a particular file has ever been started on your machine.

..pf files by themselves are never a bad thing. They can remain behind long
after the original file is gone from your machine.

See if uwdmtpus.exe and pluund3d.exe are running.

Open Task Manager...
Ctrl + Shift + Esc | Processes tab | Click the Image Name header to
alphabetize the list | Right click the files one at a time | Select End
Process | Click Yes if you get a warning

Do another Search on your machine and see if you can find the actual files,
uwdmtpus.exe and pluund3d.exe not the other files that end in .pf

I downloaded a free program called
"Windows-xp-prefetch-clean-and-control.exe" and that got rid of the 2 files
from the prefetch folder and they have not returned. Task Manager shows that
neither of the files are running and another search of "my computer"
including hidden files does not find either of the programs. I still get 1
popup that I have to respond to and 1 that flashes by when I log off. This
is much less than I was getting. I may just have to live with it or reload
my XP and my programs.

You can live with it if you want. I do not see any reason to reinstall,
yet.

For the first one, is this a rundll32 can not find something message?

For the second one, is this a rundll32 error message also?
