What is the usage of contacts field in Contact's general page

Near the bottom of the General tab of a contact. There is a button named
contacts since Outlook 2000 and up. What is the purpose or the function of
this field? I clicked on the button, it will show me the outlook folder
list. I can choose more than one record from any contact folder and added it
to this field. But I cannot figure out the function of this field. I found
no information from on-line help.

Please advise.
 
That field is present on all items and provides a two-way link between the
item and the related contact. You can double-click the linked contact to see
its details. And, the linked contact's Activities page will show the items
linked to it. I use it to link people with their predecessors or a phone
call task with the contact to be called, etc.
