WHAT IS THE URL OF A PAGE IN FRONTPAGE?

Firstly, I have to tell you that the only thing I know about Frontpage is how to make a website. So, I have finished my website. And I know I have to publish it. But how? I tried going to "Files - Publish" but I have no clue about what is being requested. Someone please help me..

And something else... Can I change something in one page, and then instantly be changed in some other pages I want? For example, if I want to add a link to the menu, can I add it only to the "index" page and then instantly be changed in the rest of the pages, so I won't have to do the same thing so many times?

File/Open Web (or Open Site if 2003)
then,
File/Publish
you will be prompted to WHERE this will be something like:
http://www.yourwebsitename.com
somewhere along the line you will be prompted for your User Name & Password
after you enter your un & pw
Click Publish.

At the top of the box it will probably show...Publish from C:\My Webs\yourwebsitename TO: http://www.yourwebsitename.com

No, not unless you have the common information in an Include Page or have it set as a parameter (I think you can do it with parameters) - definitely with Included Content.

Do you have a domain registered??
Do you have an account established with a hosting company??
Have they propagated your domain throughout the domain Name Server system?? ( takes 24 to 48 hours )
If so, they should have forwarded you the publishing instructions.

If all of the above are correct, with your local web open, select File > Publish web.... and then
enter http://yourdomain.com or .net as appropriate and then enter your server account user name and
password when prompted.

For the second part yes, as long as you are using an include page or shared border for your "links"
/ navigation structure.

If you choose Files, Publish Web (or, in FrontPage 2003
Publish Site) you need to enter the HTTP URL or FTP
location of your hosted site.

This presumes, of course, that you've already signed up
with some hosting provider that will provide the Web
server, the disk space, and the Internet connection that
will make your site publicly accessible. If you haven't
done that, now would be a good time.
And something else... Can I change something in one page,

Yes, FrontPage offers a number of ways to do that. For
example, you can use Include Page components, Shared
Borders, or (in FP2003) Dynamic Web Templates.

Crash Gordon:
When I go to "Open Web" I can just open the files of each page, not the page. I tried to open the files of the "index" page and this comes out:
FrontPage needs to add information to your folder in order to help manage your Hyperlinks and other site content.

Do you want to add FrontPage information to
"C:\Documents and Settings\sotos\My Documents\apoelcy\apoel_files" ?

I choose Yes, but nothing happens. When I tried to do it again, I saw that the icon in front of the "index_files" it was different. But I can't do anything, since the page does not open. If you can explain me simplier what I should do, I'd appreciate it.

Steve Easton & Jim Buyens:

The domain name I have is .tk because it's free. Can I publish my page to that domain name? Please tell me what I have to do.

Thanks!

By publishing, you're copying the files to another computer when "serves" the web
pages to everyone who views them. Basically you're copying the files to another
computer (commonly, your ISP or another host, or you might have your own server
set up.).

Yes, it does add certain files and folders "behind the scenes" so it may APPEAR
nothing has happened but in fact Frontpage has "prepared" the folder for you to
use for your frontpage web.

Remember you have to open a "Web" first, then the web pages (files) with the htm
extension. those files *are* the web pages.

You need to visit .tk and see what their instructions are to publish to them.

yah, you did not create a web that way.
all is not lost though you can convert what you have already created into a web.

Because I can't find simple explenations in the web...
1. How I start? Or how I convert the pages I have already created into web?
2. And how I publish it?

I hope someone will answer to both and I hope I will understand...:/

Create folder on your HD, then copy all of the content for your web into this folder, then open the
folder directly via FP, File Menu | Open Web / Site, and let FP make it a web.

Thereafter you will always open this web / site using File Menu | Open Web / Site from FP, you
always create/modify or import all content into this current open web prior to work with it or link
to it.

Then once you are completed with your web / site and have found a web host that has the FP
extensions installed, you would open the web / site and then use File Menu | Publish Web / Site
function and enter the URL of your domain, then your log in info provide by your host, etc.

I've created a nw folder and copied all the pages and their files there. I opened the frontpage, chose "Open web" and chose the folder I created. A list appeared in the left with all my pages and two other folders - private, images which are empty. Do I have to do anything else?

P.S. I tried to publish the pages via Geocities (copy the HTML) but the graphics are not shown. In fact this was my problem from the beginning, and because I didn't know how to solve it, I guessed it would be easier to publish the page via Frontpage. But I thought, doing would you told me to do would solve the graphics problem. (I have imported the pictures)

Thomas A. Rowe

You need to publish with FP or you need to manually upload all content to your web host.

You should consider placing all of your images into the images folder within the web via FP.
