What is the maximum file size Excel can save?

I can export a file that is 27.1MB into Excel and view it but I cannot seem
to save it. Is there a difference in the maximum size of a file size that
can be opened in Excel and the size of files that can be saved?

File size should not be a problem. I can save and edit an excel file of >70
M.
How many rows/columns of data do you have?

Thanks for the replies guys. The file I am using is well within the row and
column limits (577 rows, 12 columns). I understand that current versions of
Excel will have their own memory allocations and will not use more than 1GB
of RAM regardless of the PC's specifications. The reason the file I am using
is so big is that it contains a large amount of graphical data. Any more
suggestions?
