I went to the store to buy an upgrade WIN XP Pro.
Then I read on the package that it was a 2002 version.
That means it will soon be 2 years old and apparently
does NOT have the many patches MS has added!

Is there a current updated XP Pro on the market?
I don't want to spend hours d'loading 2 years worth
of patches!

The latest ones will have a sticker on the that says
"Includes Service pack 1". It's red in color.
That means you still have a bunch till sp 2 comes out.

Never fear, there are cumulative updates.

All boxes of XP say version 2002 on them. A box on sale now will almost
certainly include the September 2002 Service Pack 1 - but there is
nothing to say so until you get to see the CD. There is nothing later
than that as an installation CD, though there is a substantial roll-up
of upgrades which you can download as a single file to install once the
system is up (it is 9MB) - see
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;823929 and the 'download
package' rather than 'express' about a quarter way down
