What is the "Disable (enable) scheduled send/receive " option in Outlook 2007?

Outlook needs to perform a send/receive operation in order to send or receive
messages from the servers. You can have Outlook do this only when you press
the Send/Receive button (scheduled send/receive disabled) or you can have it
perform a send/receive on a schedule (scheduled send/receive enabled) every so
many minutes so that you don't have to remember.
