One and the same, essentially. An archive PST is, in fact, an ordinary
"Personal Folders" file, but Outlook assigns it the specific task of holding
all items selected by an "archive" function. Internally, there's no
difference between a Psersonal Folders file and an Archive file. Both are
PSTs.

If you want simply want to spread your messages out so they aren't so
difficult to keep straight, a second Personal Folders file (but named to
something besides "Personal Folders") will suffice. If you want Outlook
automatically to move items from your main PST to another PST based on
dates, then an Archive file will prove useful.
