What is the advantage of using 'fields' in a template

I have a letter template that has straight text to indicate what should be entered onto a line (ie., [Address] where address should be typed). Would using 'fields' instead be better and if so why. Several people have asked me this and as far as I can see there is no obvious advantage because as soon as you have typed in data the field becomes normal text.
The only advantage I can see is when you click to mouse the whole line of text is highlighted instead of having to drag the mouse to highlight the whole line for overtyping

I would suggest that you use a userform to gather information such as that
and insert it into document.

See the article “How to create a Userform†at:

That is the main advantage of a macrobutton field. A secondary one is that
you can use the F11 key to move to the next field. You may want to look into
what Word calls an "online form." Check this in help. For more about online
forms, follow the links at
http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm especially Dian
Chapman's series of articles.

Other options include ASK or Fill-In fields.

Hope this helps,
