Why are you asking your homework question here? This is a WORD Newsgroup. It
is pathetic that you don't know what a sub-total is from your Math lessons,
that you ask an Excel in a Word Newsgroup and that you cannot use Google to
ask your homework question.
I have discovered that subtotals are the members of a band called
Subtotal. Apparently, they are from Yadkinville, NC. Who knew? Certainly
not me.

PS
The total of part of a series of numbers.
When you say "the subtotal is" as opposed to "the total is", you are
indicating that further addition/subtracting operations are pending
(still need to be done) to determine the total.
E.g. If determining the amount to be paid for a series of items upon
which a tax must be added, one would subtotal the amounts for the goods,
calculate the tax owing, and add that to the subtotal to determine the
total.
There. Make a donation to your favorite charity to pay for the lesson.
