I found a file with a SPSS file extension on a drive. How can I find
out just what is it?

If this SPSS is about data mining then its obviously something that one
doesn't want on there PC. I have an up to date run of both Anti virus
& Spyware programs ever day & noting has been detected. How would these
files be created unless something was downloaded onto my machine & how
does one ensure that whatever created these files isn't still there?

Here is info on the SPSS program and company:

Seems that ".spss" might be a file extension of the spss
program and company.

I do not know whether anti-virus, ad defeat and spy
detection softwares look for or delete .spss files.

What you can do?
Scrub your drive with the file manager search function.
Run Find in the registry editor and remove .spss references
after doing a backup of the keys involved.
Clean out your temporary internet files, temp files, cookie
files (and use the IE Tools Options utilities for cookies,
temp internet files, etc to delete them). Run the
Msconfig.exe utility and disable the program and services
that might be using .spss extension.

I have run both Ad-Aware & Spybot Search & Destroy. I can try doing
what you suggested to remove the files from my PC. But it would be nice
to know how they got there in the first place & how to prevent them from
reoccurring.
