What is OS Install Mode?

Windows XP SP3 , Installed RAM 512MB
But when starting up, a message says OS Install Mode enabled, amount of
memory limited to 256 MB.

What gives? Thank you.

A quick Google search (maybe you've heard of Google?) shows that "OS
Install Mode" is a BIOS setting, common to Dell boxes, but also
appearing in some other vendor's hardware.

Apparently, the fix is to turn it off.

Thanks for your time. Google is my first resort, but this time I simply
asked the question without thinking. It has been fixed.
