OEM= Original Equipment Manufacturer. It is a common knowledge. No need to
search for it.

In hardware, as in Video cards, OEM often have slower processors than
their Retail versions.
OEM CPU's don't normally include a Heat sink and Fan in the package, as
the OEM buys a bulk LOT of CPU's in a tray.
OEM Motherboards, well, their all OEM.
OEM Drives - they normally mean you have to get RMA/Support from the
vendor you purchased them through instead of the Mfgr. I had a number of
Dell computers with failed drives, but, Western Digital would not
replace them directly, I had to get them replaced via Dell, and since
the computer was out of warranty they would not replace them - even
though the drive was still under warranty. Some OEM drives has a lesser
warranty than Retail drives.

Here in Asia the wholesaler seems to pack the products and give the warranty
for customers themselves instead of the Manufacturer. Normally it would give
3y ~5y of warranty.
So the warrantied and packed drives are all belong to "Retail" category?

I gave up on that a few years ago because of disparities between both
manufacturers, vendors and resellers of hardware. I won't buy anything
unless the entire contents of the package is divulged, especially an
internet store. More specific, the better I like it.

Retail means it comes in a box, directly from the mfgr, with support
normally from the mfgr.
Repackaged by an OEM does not make something retail.

the box you need to phsycally install it and get it running. OEM are usally
"bare bones" meaning that you may not get cables, maybe a basic driver - no
additional software, perhaps no installaiton instructions, and off course, no
fancy box. be careful to understand what comes in the plain white OEM box.
OEM is typically cheaper, but you do need to know what you are doing to
install the part. The Retail version is generally designed for the person who
may not have done this before.
In either case, a manufacturer's warranty will generally apply. There may be
restrictions on returns though.
It is always wise to fully understand the return policy when buying a
component...

When you buy online in the US, it is your responsibility to get the parts
installed, either by yourself or by taking them to a shop. If you buy it from
a shop, they can do it of course. Either way, it is an extra cost. If you are
going to have a professional install the part for you, then i would go with
an OEM part and save the cost of the part.
