Would someone please give a short explanation of what AJAX is?

In plain English, AJAX is JavaScript that goes back to the server to get
data that is used to refresh portions of the page without requiring the
whole page to be redisplayed. In a manner of speaking it is a bit of smoke
and mirrors.

No "AJAX" is a cleaning product in Australia.....

Sorry, wasn't trying to be funny. Never heard of "Ajax" in terms of the
internet before. It is the first thing that came to mind.

Ajax is a cleaning product all over the world.
Sorry, wasn't trying to be funny.

Of course you were. And you were funny.

You will hear a lot more about it as time goes by. Microsoft is already
developing their own version of it, and will incorporate it into the next
release of the .Net platform, Visual Studio, et al. Perhaps even sooner.
Hard to say. Their version is currently called "Atlas."

While Atlas is not a cleaning product, both Ajax and Atlas are Greek Gods.
