What is a toolbox and its purpose? (The one in Microsoft Word)

I need a definition of the toolbox (the one found in word not access etc), I
see something that says CONTROL TOOLBOX is this the same thing? A definition
for either one would really be appreciated.

Homework questions don't get answered here. And if you're not sure what the
teacher is asking how do you expect someone who isn't even in the class to
to have any idea?
