In physics, a field is an assignment of a quantity to every point in space
(or more generally, spacetime). For example, one can speak of a
gravitational field, which assigns a vector indicating the force a unit mass
would experience to each point in space.

One might also say that a Field is a database-specific implementation of a
particular Attribute of an Entity Class. Which without context is nearly as
meaningless as my first answer.
