I created a new folder

Then I copied a folder and a file from another folder into the new folder.

They look OK but there are no names displayed for either

Why is it so?

Mhm. What folder names? How can they look OK if there are no names
displayed? You need to supply full details if you require a good answer!

Here's a guess -

The Case Of The Missing File Names

The Problem

Thumbnail view of folder shows pictures in the folder but NO file names.

Start in List or Details view. Now while holding down the shift key select
the view for either thumbnails or filmstrip to turn on name display (or if
the name was already displayed, turn off the name display).
or
Right click the folder and then while holding down the shift key click on
Open. The file and folder names should now be displayed if they weren't
before or if they were being displayed, they now won't be displayed.
