what happened to the Auto Text option

in Word 2003 there used to be an Auto Text option that would store text that
could not be stored in Auto Correct, as it had exceeded the 255 charachters
allowed.
Is there a way to do this now?

Yup its called Quick Parts and is under Inserts > Text =)

Remember all the same stuff is there, they just moved it, renamed it and
make it pretty!

AutoText is now called Building Blocks. Think of Building Blocks as AutoText
on steriods - there's far more to the new functionality than just a name
change. (As they did with most of the features they enhanced in this
version.)

Building Blocks are what you see in the various galleries such as Cover
Page, Headers, Footers, Text boxes, etc. You can create new Building Blocks
and add them to the respective galleries (the easy way to do this is use the
"Save Selection to <Gallery Name>" at the bottom of the gallery or if they
aren't specific to a gallery, you'll find the ability to save a new Building
Block on the Insert tab under Quick Parts.

That said... users who require AutoComplete will find that Word 2007's
implementation is flawed. For quick insertion of AutoText items, you'll need
to use the "type a portion of it and press F3" method. Except for that flaw,
like Beth, I find much to like about Building Blocks. But, don't expect the
identical functionality you found in Word 2003 and earlier.

The 255 character limit only applies to unformatted autocorrect entries.
Formatted autocorrect entries can be much larger and include graphics,
tables etc.
