What edition of Frontpage 2003 to buy?

In the past I have had problems with the FP version I purchased -
academic, OEM or other does not receive any support, does not have
sharepoint possibilities or it costs more to get sharepoint even if
you choose a hosting service that offers sharepoint and then they will
want to charge more money, not to mention vendors out there with
suspiciously low prices. Another twist was buying Frontpage full
version and installing it on XP Home and finding that limited my
options.

Has anyone written a nice concise guide how to avoid buying stolen
software or otherwise breaking terms of service, getting a product
that is competitively priced?

Buy you software from a well know retailer or online merchant.

Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, etc.

I was surprised to discover that Microsoft will not allow high school
students to buy Academic versions of FrontPage 2003. Only students enrolled
in college-level courses or above qualify. My daughter has been using
FrontPage since Sixth Grade, and most users I know choose and stay with
their favorite software early on. Seems pretty shortsighted of the Redmond
folks.

Anyone have any idea why they've done this? With "activation" in place, it
can't be concern about piracy.

Have the school's purchasing agent/department contact their software
suppliers and see what discount can be arranged.

If your daughter has been using a licensed copy of FP since 6th grade, then
she get the upgrade version, which is most like around the same price.
Academic versions are not upgradeable.

I have never known MS to offer Academic versions to any below college level,
and have a valid college ID.

Why not pass your comment on directly to Microsoft?

I understand your frustration and I'm sure the others do as well. However,
we are not MS employees. You need to direct your comments to the people who
can effect a change one day.

Your daughters teacher and her school are both eligible to receive the
academic price.

Thanks for your comment, JoAnn. I've tried passing this comment and
others to Microsoft, but there is no interest there, except to sell
more software, certainly not clarify the advertising.

I hope that I didn't come across as expecting you - or anyone - to
feel obliged to sort this out. I was just hoping that somone had.

Hopefully, if enough people complain/comment, changes will happen. Until
then, we all do the best we can with what we have.
