What does RPC do anyway?

In light of the big msblaster issue, could someone sum up
the reason for using, or uses of, the RPC service? I
have always blocked this port on my network but was
curious what it would be used for.

Thanks in advance,
BEAK.

RPC stands for Remote Procedure Call. It's a way for programs to
communicate over the network. File sharing uses it among many others.
