What do you sugest for an upgrade?

Hi I have a working pc but would like to upgrade to the greatest or latest
that runs like lightening but I need some sugestions about good/great mobo
and CPU memory ect.

I would like to get SATA HDD that runs at 10,000 rpm later so a mobo that
has this is needed. I dont know/have much experience with PCIE 3d cards as I
have only used an agp 8x card but need to know about what is faster and
better from the two.

As far as cpu's go I have an AMD Athalon 2400+ but again what is the fastest
and best.

Im going to be using all this for games and connecting my DV camcorder to
make DVD's plus internet and other basic things but mostly for a pc game
called myst 4 revelations as with my current pc it runs slow ie it has a 3
second wait when clicking to go places.

It should have the fastest FSB and Cache and about 4 PCI slots, 3 memory
slots (plus fastest memory).

Thanks in advance, Shaun B.

Do you have a spending limit ?

It is better to answer a question like this, with information you
are going to use. The price curve tends to go exponential at some
point, and for most people, they don't really mean "the best" when
they say that. They mean "the best I can get for xxx dollars".

I downloaded the Myst IV demo, and boy, how can you make a static
game like that, use more resources than BF2 ? Navigation in the
demo kinda sucks. I'm not sure that hardware alone is the answer.
It is hard to tell if all the delays will be erased by building
a beast of a computer or not. It looks like they accept your
navigation input, then prepare some 3D content and animations to
overlay a static background. A portion of that execution time will
be reduced by using a more capable processor, but I'm willing to
bet the interface will still be annoying. (You'll find the
more reasonably designed games are more fun.)

Some options - for most games, the single core processors will
do the job - so the 4000+ would be as good as the
4600+ for a lot of games. Missing from this table
are all the Opterons (used by overclockers, and
must be overclocked to get your money's worth):

3800+ 2,4GHz, 512KB L2 S939 $148
4000+ 2.4GHz, 1MB L2 S939 $299
X2 3800+ 2.0GHz, 2x512KB L2, dual core S939 $297
X2 4600+ 2.4GHz, 2x512KB L2, dual core S939 $547
FX57 2.8GHz, 1MB L2 S939 $811
FX62 2.8GHz, 2x1MB L2, dual core S939 $1200

Motherboard - A8N-SLI Premium (USB, Firewire) $154
Passive chipset cooler, uses CPU fan for cooling
Only 3 PCI slots, but lots of space between
first video card slot and the PCI slots.

Memory - 2x1GB CAS2 PC3200 ~$95 each $190
(use customer reviews on Newegg.com
to select a product with a good
reputation)

Video - rated like pants, small, medium, large :)
- for the expensive ones, buy ones that have a good warranty...
hot video cards have been known to fail.
- no need for SLI/Crossfire unless you have super-high
resolution monitor.

Geforce 6500 256MB $43
Geforce 7600GT 256MB $160
Geforce 7900GTX 512MB $460
ATI X1900XTX $464

So you could probably throw some combinations of those prices
together, to get systems in the $800 to $2000 USD range. Still
needs a decent power supply and case, which could probably set you
back another $200 USD.

So, how much money you got ?

Everything has to go except the bare case. New power supply, mobo, cpu, video
and drives.Doubtful if your ram will make it either unless it's PC3200.Sorry
the 2400 Athlon setup is two generations back.
