What are these folders?

Folks:

When I look at my C: drive in Explorer (WXPPro SP2), I see these folders.
Should they be there? Can I get rid of them? What are they? It seems that
they are somehow associated with SP2 since each contains a subfolder called
SP2, yet on each of those subfolders I get this when I click on them -

---------------------------
C:\77df6648f81b34f27e8efb90c32ede31
---------------------------
C:\77df6648f81b34f27e8efb90c32ede31\sp2 is not accessible.

Access is denied.

When I installed SP2 from the download, it de-compressed
into such a 'random' named folder. This folder no longer
exists on my machine, so I would think it is safe to
delete.

To have that folder would indicate that some one tried to
install SP2.

Nope - they appeared long before SP2 was released. I suspect that they were
preloaded bits of SP2, however.

I'll try to delete them....

Update - the SP2 folders within each are read only. I cannot change them.
Windows will not allow me to delete the parent folders, therefore!

Wot now?

You are stuck with them. For some unknown reason, the OS is using the files and the file
handles are open thus blocking your ability to delete them.
