what are correct versions of HD audio DLL's?

Ladies and gents....I'm still trying to figure out why my XP2 Pro /
SP3 system is crashing whenever I use the sound recorder or any
program which takes sound input to the PC.

I've scoured the internet and find all kinds of stuff on KB888111 and
KB835221 but it is unclear if they pertain to the latest SP3 release
or an earlier "release candidate." I've read an article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111/en-us which suggests current
versions of the HD audio bus drivers, dll's and sys files which are
5.10.1.5013 but those are for SP2. The HD aduio bus driver in my SP3-
Windows Updated system is showing 5.10.0.5010. In System32, files
corresponding to the names in the articles are similar but have 'aud"
in them instaed of a, as in hdaprop.dll shows as hdaudprop.dll, and
the versions in my system are of 5010 vintage. When SP3 came out, did
it not need these '5013 versions as SP2 did?

my sys: Intel D915GAV mobo, 3GB ram, windows XP Pro Sp3. Audio is
onboard Realtek ALC860/880.

Thanks,
Barb

Run DXDIAG and use the check out the Sound drivers, run the tests.
Lower sound hardware acceleration while in DXDIAG and see if that stops
the "crashes". If you added a wireless card, that can cause problems too.

Also go to the OEM site for your computer, HP, eMachine, etc., and see
if there are updated drivers there. Try the older drivers too.. you
just want it to work, right?

Thanks Joe for trying to help.....I did actually do the DXDIAG and
tried older drivers but no luck. My only motivation for installing the
latest drivers is because Microsoft will suggest that not having them
is the root cause of the crash. So I've done everything kosher but
still can't use my microphone. Intel's driver check says all of my
drivers are up to date...bios drivers .....everything. I tried going
to the Realtek site and downloading their latest HD audio drivers but
they have the same problem. Are the drivers only dependent on the OS
or are they mobo dependent too? If so. I get the impression from
Realtek's site that they are only OS dependent.

My system is not from an OEM....the only original thing it has is the
case.

I've seen some other folks having the same problem but posting their
questions in other help groups. Hopefully it will not be confined to
my motherboard alone, which will produce enough demand on Microsoft to
pay attention to it. Otherwise, I'm on my own on this one.

Thanks Joe,
Barb
