I cant believe on this endless thread of people who dont know what they are
talking about!!!!

We all have to learn some time. Chatting with, sharing experiences
with other professionals about new and sometime fascinating technologies
is a rare treat. Also a great way to learn in an extremely rapid
time frame. Don't let it bother you.

And, yes, I do tend to spend too much time doing the same with
willing tech support professionals on the phone.

IF YOU WANT to use AERO 3d in a virtual machine it is possible, only if:

1) you are running Vista with aero 3d enabled on the HOST
2) You enable the remote desktop on the CLIENT
3) You log on to the CLIENT from the Remote Desktop Client on the HOST

Hmmm. The virtual machine has no clue it is a virtual machine.
(Virus programmers excepted, as they have to look for
common VM hardware and guess at it, like old network cards,
etc..) The virtual machine is also isolated from the host
and has no clue it exists.

I would presume that the reason Aero is not supported would
be the lack on fake virtual hardware that meets its
requirements.

Do you know of some reason Vista would go out of its way
to check if it was a virtual machine and then react
accordingly? I see no reason for it, but I have been wrong
before.

Its ok of course no one knows everything... I didnt mean you since of course
you asked the question

Look who is talking. Just FYI. You are the complete idiot here. If you
would stop stalking farm animals and get a clue, the world would be a much
better place. You have no idea what you are talking about. Don't step in
where you are not needed. Just FYI.

Just FYI

Not according to your parole officer. Just FYI. He says that you are doing
better. Maybe you can land a job in the near future. Just FYI

I've been messing around with running XP Home in a virtual machine on
Vista 64 bit, using MS's Virtual PC. Pretty cool. The real machine (not
the virtual one) also dual boots to Win XP Pro 64-bit. So, I'm a power
user too. If I can find a version of Linux that EASILY installs into
Virtual PC, I'll give that a shot as well.

DP,

An idea! I test my Bart PE disks on a virtual machine.
I tell the virtual machine to boot off the CD/DVD drive
and its tests them perfectly.

You could do the same with any Linux Live CD to get
use to Linux (or tear all your hair out!).

Hi All,

I am trying to get to the "Advanced" desktop settings.

I am reading the following directions:

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/78281-advanced-appearance.html

On step 4, it says to:

4. Click the Advanced button. (See screenshot below)

I may be going blind, but where is this mystery "Advanced" button?

Have you checked next to the Any key? ;)

Sorry...couldn't resist!

My understanding is that there is an issue with Linux color depth that
doesn't mesh with the color depth of Virtual PC's vm's. Or something like
that.
There are ways to get it to work using some tweaks that I don't recall and
probably didn't understand, but I'm just looking for an easy way to get it
to work. You know, pop the CD in, install, use.

In fact, I did try that with one of the live CDs. I forget which one. All I
got was garbage on the screen after the install was finished.

The "Any Key"???? All this time I thought it was
the "DEL-ivery" key! :-D

the display adaptor of the VM is only an emulation..

as you said the VM doenst know its a VM, but it also does not have direct
access to real hardware like the 3d chip of the graphic card.

All of this information is out there on google.. why dont you use it?
