I purchased a WGA kit online last year and the it worked. However, when I
upgraded my PC with new motherboard and CPU, it entailed me to reinstall
windows XP. However I could no longer use the CD key. I am given an error
message that the CD Key has already been used (of course!).

Please advise.

I am not familiar with the details of this "kit", only that it is one way to make an installation of XP "legal".

However, be aware that Microsoft sells two basic types of licenses, retail and OEM. If this "kit" is of the OEM type, then it can not be transferred to a new PC. OEM licenses are tied to the original hardware, which usually means the original motherboard, sometimes even the original BIOS version on the motherboard.

Try checking with Microsoft for the details of the license you purchased. If it is a retail license, then try calling this number for assistance with product activation:

From microsoft. Its a windows genuine advantage kit they're offering to
those whose whose windows installations failed the validation. They give you
a working and legitimate cd key and instructions on how to go about changing
the key.
