hi

just signed up here hopefully to get an answer to my problem... here'
wot happens..

windows xp will boot up, but then after 10 seconds (still loading th
stupid system tray stuff)... it will reboot n do it again

u would think virus, but when the ethernet cable (for th
internet/network) is unplugged, the pc will be fine, ditto fo
complete blocking off all net traffic with firewall..

it seems that lower settings on the firewall, make it take longer, e
medium takes about half an hour..

the other intersting thing is... that it is my SATA harddrive tha
shuts off, not an actual reboot, i know this because i disabled th
reboot on serious error option in windows.... and i can hear th
harddrive spin down, but the MB and graphic etc.. keep o
spinning..

haha it feels like sum1 is disconnecting my hdd remotely... :


any help would be greatly appreciated.. ohh and this is a new machine
and yes i have already tried reforrmatting it, still happen

It isn't necessarily the internet doing this. Could be a bunch of other
things also.
You'll have to get the text of any error messages and post them here.

Have a look in the event logs and see if there is any indication recorded
there of why it reboots.

He got his message across. It was clear and understandable. Sure, proper
capitalization would be better, but it isn't a requirement for posting to a
newsgroup. I'm sure he would have appreciated a helpful comment rather than
an unnecessary ticking off about his sentence structure.

Well i am sorry, i am very used to just chatting, especially in forum
and i was very stressed at the time

It does seem as if it was internet related, as i have installed
better firewall, and have it always active

How do i view the event logs?, i am going to try to replicate it, b
disabling the new firewall, i want to know what is happening an
why

To view the event logs:
Start > Control Panel
(Traditional view)
Administrative Tools
Event Viewer
look in both the Application and System logs.

I wouldn't advise disabling your firewall. You lay yourself open to catching
all sorts of nasty things ...

alot later than straight away.

There is a shitload of errors and warnings in the event viewer, DCOM,
Service control error, and system error, in the system section. There
are also many errors in the application part.

I cannot figure this out, it is bloody well annoying me, i thought i
pluged something up wrong, but the sheer randomness of it seems to
eliminate that.

Really getting annoyed now, it dosent make sense, why does a
connection to the internet cause this?

btw my lan is a onboard one, Abit N18 SLI motherboard. Im also using a
200GB western digital SATA2 Hdd.

What firewall are you using and why did you replace the last one?


You have two issues that could be the problem:

1) Virus / Malware - even if you think you've checked, check again using
a different VA product and run it in SAFE MODE

2) Hardware issues that are causing the problem.

You may have to wipe the machine and start over, doing it all updated
and behind a NAT appliance at the minimum to build a secure system.

Choose from the following links for AV and Antispyware products.

Only download software you can validate as uncompromised - in the case
of non-vendor site you have no guarantee that the files are unmodified
or uncompromised. Anyone providing a link to a non-vendors site with a
direct download should not be trusted, the vendors sites are the safest
place to download their application.

Also, do not post HiJack log files here - there are HiJack groups for
just that purpose, not to mention all the web based forums setup for
looking at them.

Always remember - only download files from Trusted Sites.

These sites are for downloading Anti-Spyware tools, in order that I
would use them myself:

Download AVG Personal Free edition from here:

These are the actual vendors sites, not some unknown or authorized no-
name site. They also don't artificially increase the hits for sites that
get paid for the amount of traffic they can generate like one poster has
admitted to in this group.

When running these application, install them, update them, then reboot
in SAFE MODE and run them again to get even more things.

If you take nothing else from this post, remember the following:

Only download files from Trusted Sites.

I didn't even bother reading the message after the first few "words"
if "u want 2 call dem dat." I find cyberspeak, or whatever the chat
room idiots use, to be hard to read, hard on the eyes, and idiotic and
don't pay it any attention here in the newsgroups. If they want grown
up advice, they can ask like a grown up, not a 12 year old chat room
weenie.

I know almost nothing about SATA as I don't use it but it sounds a little
like the HD isn't recognized. When you installed the OS did you use the F6
option to install the SATA drivers for your HD? They need to be on a floppy
disk.

I agree with both of you. His post is difficult to read and does show a
"chat room" mentality but he did get his point across although I had to read
his post a couple of times to understand it... so...

Can one of you help him? I can't, I don't use SATA and don't really know
much about it but no matter how badly written his post might be, he still
needs his computer fixed.

First thing is first, i said i was in a hurry and stressed, get ove
the first post already...

Also the SATA2 cables connect striaght into the motherboard, no pc
cards, so there is no drivers, at least not that i got with my hdd

Also you may be right with saying there is something wrong with m
hdd, driver wise. Windows XP is seems to detect it as a "removabl
hdd", like a usb flash drive. I think that maybe when im on th
ineternet, someone sees this, and disconnects the hd

Also the event logs are very long. Do you want me to post them
