Weird Symbols (NOT paragraph marks)

In my completed document, which has a lot of tracked changes but none
showing, one paragraph is now showing a few weird symbols - there's a
tilde-like thing, and all the 1s have a small dot under them. These are NOT
the symbols that show up when you hit the P button on the toolbar, and
they're only showing up in one paragraph. I tried accepting all changes in
the paragraph, but they're still there. They kind of look like the kind of
artifacts that sometimes happen when you make lots of changes, but then when
you scroll ahead and back they disappear - only I can't get them to
disappear!

Anyone have any idea what these are or how I can get rid of them?

This sounds ominous, especially since they persist when you accept the
changes. I would suggest treating the document as corrupt; see

Thanks Suzanne - that's what I was afraid of. I was only able to get rid of
the strange symbols by deleting the whole paragraph and re-typing it (luckily
it was a short paragraph!). After reading the link you provided, it makes
sense that there could have been corruption in that paragraph's paragraph
marker, or in the section break at the end of the section. (The document is
fairly complicated, with lots of section breaks, etc.).

Hopefully I won't have to work with the document again any time soon, but
I'm going to follow the suggestions on the link anyway just in case.

Thanks!
