weird issues

Hi all, I have a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine with all the latest updates. On
a frequent everyday basis I will experience issues with response times on
being able to click on an open window below in the taskbar. This always
happens if my computer auto-locks after a period of inactivity and the
screensaver kicks in. After I log back in it will take anywhere from 30-60
seconds or sometimes even more for me to get full control back of my screen
especially the taskbar below. What is interesting is while this happens I
can still ALT-TAB between windows and that works. I am just unable to click
on any icon on the taskbar from left to right including the Start Menu,
quick launch icons etc etc.

Any ideas what is causing this? I have a new computer with a 2.6ghz cpu and
1 gb ram.

TIA!

Empty your temporary internet files and temp folder plus the prefetch
folder.

Temporary Interent Files location:
C:\Documents and Settings\Your username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files

It has something to do with the Taskbar I think.. I right clicked on Start
and went to the Taskbar properties. Made some changes like "Hide the Clock"
or something.. Hit apply and it took like 2 mins!! I tried it again and same
effect.

TIA!

How often do I have to do this? The machine is just about a month old.

Temporary Internet files often gets set up allowed far more space than
is good for it. Go to Control Panel - Internet Options, and in the Temp
Internet Files section of the main page

click Delete files

then click Settings and reduce the slider setting - 50 MB should be
plenty and avoids these troubles caused by overload of its indexes

Well well, I finally found someone with the same nightmare I have been
fighting with for 2 weeks now. No solution here either. Belive me, clearing
temps and defragging and such does not solve the issue. Repairing from the
Win CD does not fix it either. MY AV is current and runs with scan all and
finds nothing. My Spybot finds nothing either. I've enlarged the virtual
cache (per the silly Microsoft Tech support that twice told me it was
"performance issues" and to defrag, AV, dot dot dot. ).

I wonder if we have any common thread here. I have Norton AV Corperate
running. I am on a SBS server domain as a client. I have wondered if Wintweek
had anything to do with it too. Do you have any of these running too?

Here is my issue:
Takes 3 minutes or longer after logging in to get icons on desk top (login
is fast). Then takes 3 to 5 minutest to be able to use any icons. After that,
icons on the desktop seem to be fine (except for pauses in I Explorer). Games
run perfect (demanding ones too). But, forbid I press the start button or any
minimized tasks on the task bar or any quick start icons on the task bar. If
I do, I get to wait another 3 to 5 minutes. Once I get the start menu open,
it will work for a few seconds as I select a submenu and then poof, wait
another 3 to 5 minutes. Anyone with any help for this nightmare after SP2 by
the way, please email me at (e-mail address removed)

Check both System & Application Event logs for any error(s),
as a starting point for diagnosing the issue.

As for Andre's advice - He recommended you mow your lawn
when your car won't start. Ignore him - He'll just waste your time.

If I had installed something with a name like Wintweek and then had
performance troubles, my first action would be to start over without it.
Note that such things operate quite a lot through settings in the
registry, which a 'Repair' reinstall may well not put back to default
