Websites “disabling” the “Back” Button!

I am increasingly finding that Web Sites I visit “disable” my “Back
button so that I can’t return to the previous page (usually the Searc
Page that has directed me there in the first place!). It’s ver
annoying – is there some way of stopping this?

Thanks in advance

Is a new window opening when you pick a link out of your search engine?

Google has an option to open links in a new window and the new window has no prior page to go back
to, hence the disabling of the back button. Just closing that new window brings you back to Google.

If you use the modified HOSTS file to kill ad pages, clicking the back button does not seem to work
as it is trying to go back through a lot of disabled ad pages. When this happens, use the
down-arrow next to the back button to skip by the disabled ad pages.

Tell us a bit more about exactly what your are seeing and what Search Page you were using.

Not really, but you can click the little arrow in the Back icon
and get a lost of the pages you've been to; choose one two pages
back and skip the offending page.

If the button itself is actually grayed out (disabled), then the website
simply opened up a new window. To go back, just close the newly opened
window.

If the back button is enabled, but hitting back returns you to the current
page, then hit the down-arrow next to the back button, and select the page
or site in the list you want to return to.
