Webdav Write Access in Vista

Brian W.

I have searched and searched, but I can not find a solution to my
problem.

It's very simple. I have an excel file sitting on a webdav server
hosted by http://www.box.net. I can map a "web folder" just fine, and
open any of the documents. The problem is, when I open the file, it
always opens as "read-only". This is just Microsoft Office, as I've
tried other programs, notepad, openoffice, etc. This behavior does
not occur on Windows XP, as I am able to access the file with write
permissions on my work PC.

Does anybody know the solution to this? Can you point me in the right
direction. I have Vista SP1, so I assume I have all of the web dav
patches from Microsoft.

Thanks,
Brian

The following website was brought to my attention:

Although, it is not the most elegant solution (the best solution being
a Microsoft fix for this issue). If you run Excel, or any Office
application in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode, you will be granted
"Write Access" to the file on your webdav.

You can do this by accessing the application in C:\Program Files
\Microsoft Office\Office12.

1.) Right Click on the Application (ie. excel.exe)
2.) Click "Properties"
3.) Click the "Compatibility" Tab
4.) (if you're an administrator) click "show settings for all users"
button
5.) Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select
Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
6.) Apply the changes.

Now you should be able to open your file on the webdav server with
write access.
