Web Site Updated...Again.

Bob Adkins

Bob's "World's Best Freeware" site has been updated.

Nothing major again this time.

Replace: Bask with Cobain Backup

Replace: Kleen-It with TempCleaner, (a real Boomer program)

Uglied up site. It was getting too pretty; I'm getting far too many
visitors. Charter dot net will have to lease another backbone just for me if
I don't do something. :-\

Note: Reviewed PowerDesk 5 Freeware. Try it, but believe me, you should keep
PowerDesk 4 install file. PD5 Freeware is stripped to the bones.

Another note: I'm looking for a serviceable TROJAN DECTOR/REMOVER. I have
searched this genre far and wide, and came up dry as cracker juice. I have
found a few niggling programs, but nothing worthy of posting on the Web.

Yet another note: Looking for 2 or 3 more genres, which will be all I have
time to review and constantly stir better stuff into the mix.

I tried that program some time back. I have to admit, it works, but...

but what ?

the site seems vague about the freeware nature of this prog, It is a
lite program, with a bigger brother with heuristic scanning.

I am about to try it, but it would be good if you could expand on your
answer above.

PS - it also asked for an email address - something many people do not
like to give out

It is a lite version with a for-pay bigger brother. Also, the free
version is limited to *monthly* signature updates (daily updates are a
for-pay option). But what the hell, it works. And I haven't found
anything better (in the low-tech find signature and destroy category,
anyway).

running it now.

in addition to you having to give your email, it replies in html
format which is annoying if you don't use html email, and the scanner
seems a little slow.

But....... :)

It might be thorough :)

A few weeks will tell....

cheers

It's full of nags to buy the full version, the author takes every
opportunity to send you back to his web site, and then there's that e-mail
thing. Hey, people buy software to protect themselves from programs like
Swatit. :)

I'd like to see an "Install monitor" (?) category, for which I'd propose
Gabi Martau's *Total Uninstall* as the best:
http://www.geocities.com/ggmartau/

Note: In System monitor category, SpeedFan links to mbprobe
(http://mbprobe.livewiredev.com/download.html)
I checked it thinking it was a Total Uninstall kind of software, mislead by
the name "System monitor". How about a more specific name? ("Temperature
monitor" ?)

Ciao!

I thought I was going to be smarter than the others and get your URL
from the priceless ware site. It's not even there!

I don't write software. I just review it and supply links to it.
Are you running a stealth site by accident? or on purpose? Or maybe your just a dumb ass?

I think the latter. How about you?

Thanks. Nice category. I'll check TU out, and any other program of this
type. I once tried "Ashampoo Uninstaller", and it was nice but buggy. I
tried TrashIt and Perfect Companion, also on the dark side. (Shareware),
These programs can be useful if they work quickly and accurately, especially
if they are memory resident and detect setup programs.

OK, you're right. SpeedFan is a "Hardware Monitor". That was just a dumb
mistake on my part. I'll fix it before anyone notices.
