web browsing freezes

I can be using IE7 or Foxfire and everything stops responding to the cursor. I can move the cursor around, using a usb trackball, but if I try to click on anything, nothing happens. To get things working again, all I do is the three finger salute and start Task Manager. As soon as Task Manager starts, all's well again.
Any ideas?
thanks

I don't know what's causing it, but I would try leaving Task Manager
open all the time so I could watch for some process using all the CPU
or some other resource.

Post this to the IE newsgroup or to the Firefox forum where you will get a better answer. This group deals with the Vista OS not with IE and or Firefox.
