WD 120 GB disk drive, unknown partition.

I recently installed a new 120 GB hardrive in addition to
my 80 GB. The bios, XP and Partition magic all
recognized that the hardrive exists. When I go into to
disk mangament I can't format or access the drive. I
tried deleting then reformating it. XP assigned it a
letter and allowed me access only during that session.
When I reboot everything reverts back to the previous
setup. I tried turning off System Restore, but the same
thing happened. The hard drive also does the same with
Partition Magic although I've done each method separately.
When I installed the HD initially I used the disk it came
with it to format it as NTFS.

I changed the driver for my IDE controller and I solved a
problem similar to yours.

I had 2 drives, one 98, the other xp. the 98 drive didn't
show up, even under disk management. the driver update
changed that.
