I chose only to crunch cancer & Aids and as the cancer project is now finished that means I'm only getting the Aids WU's, which is what I prefer, that disease is despicable.

Is that why though? Do Aids WU's take longer than the others?

I still say Linux, which is the OS of the MJW pc (no, I ain't change it yet) got 10 results but only gets 909 points for doing all that work. Now, I ain't too worried about points, as, like you, I prefer to look at results, but there you go.

Yep the Aids WU's do take a fair bit longer - and there is a general concensus that they produce more points per day than other projects - I have no idea why that is, maybe there is more credit given for the more memory intensive projects?

A more extreme example from todays stats could be between me and Lone-Wolf:

Adywebb 47,283 / 99 results
Lone-Wolf 27,893 / 249 results

I am crunching Aids only at the moment, I would suggest Lone-Wolf is crunching predominantly the short Genome Comparison or Human Proteome Folding units......

I am going to change the OS on MJW just to see, and maybe prove to myself, that Linux is indeed being penalised.

Alledgedly the latest Linux clients are supposed to at least give parity to windows clients, and over at XtremeSystems many say they are getting more with linux - I wonder if it has anything to do with what PC spec it runs on?

Well, he is a 754 64 Bit and originally only had 512Mb ram, but I have upgraded that to 1024Mb ... The main reason for Linux, was obviously to keep costs down, and, that Linux takes up less base ram to function. I have tried out 4 different Linux Distros ... all seem to get less points.


The MJW PC is on par with the Old Girl and there should be an advantage to the MJW pc as it is a slightly better spec.

I got time this evening, gonna swap em over as the Old Girl is still throwing up a wobblie, the HD seems fine though.

Sorry Ady looks like you'll have to get used to my abusing the stats for a wee bit longer but that should settle down fairly quickly now.

I too often wonder what the deal is with points and results and have even tried various combinations but am at a loss to figure it out.

I do have my equipment focusing on the Genome and HPF until the Cancer returns but may experiment on some of my machines to see what happens.

I did ask over at XtremeSystems, and it would appear that those getting good results are using a 64-Bit linux client together with a self-compiled 64-bit Boinc Client - so that may explain it.

I am going to see if I can get hold of a copy of a 64-bit Boinc client and maybe we can try it out and see.
