Yeah, we could use a few more crunch-buddies I think. My own crunching is down a bit too, because my current PC struggles a bit when I'm gaming, and I've not had much opportunity to set-up the new one yet.

Yeah, we could use a few more crunch-buddies I think. My own crunching is down a bit too, because my current PC struggles a bit when I'm gaming, and I've not had much opportunity to set-up the new one yet.

I run Boinc at 50% on my Arch set up and the games I play on it do not slow down Boinc. However I do play games on my dual boot in Windows 7 so whilst playing them Boinc of course is not running.

As to more team members. I have tried to post showing that you can run Boinc at speeds other than 100%, say 30% or 50% and still make a contribution. Running Boinc at those slower speeds on modern pc's allows you to do most daily tasks at full speed as well as crunch. As to electric costs my Skylake uses about 50% less than my previous build and is at least 50% faster so the cost is pretty negligible.

@Abarbarian - yeah, I can play and crunch, and never, ever, had a problem before the new game expansion, which came out last year. But my game is said to be very cpu-heavy, so the fans tend to work overtime and - as the cpu is situated right beside me, my headset mic tends to pick up the sound of the gale-force winds! lol So I tend to suspend crunching so as not to annoy others with background noise. (My current rig is getting-on a bit,)

We certainly don't find it expensive to run BOINC though. It crunches in the background and normally doesn't interfere with anything else that I do.

I know some folk are concerned about running costs, but, if the computer is running anyway, I honestly don't think BOINC makes any significant difference to electricity costs as it does its thing. So I totally agree with you about that; and also that a very worthwhile contribution can be made when BOINC is not going flat-out.

Well maybe it would be a start to get a new PCR crunching thread going in WCG? Latterly, the old one became somewhat derailed, and frankly, it maybe doesn't reflect too well on the team. That is just my thought though, but it would be good to know what everyone else thinks about that.
