it is not obeying settings ... insists on running CPUs @ 100%, no matter what setting is chosen. Using Std setting.

I have, however, just found this ...

* Note: If you set the throttle in the BOINC agent (called: Use no more than: % of processor time) to 60%, the agent will run at 100% for three seconds, and then at 0% for two seconds.

So, does this also affect "Standard Setting" & Min Sattings, 'cos I still see my CPUs running @ 100%

Don't know how to turn off GPU use, not got that far ... uninstalling BONK seems to have fixed it tho'.

Why does the World Community Grid software only use 60% of my cpu time?
When World Community Grid was started in 2004, we heard isolated reports of computer instability while running the software at 100%. Because of this we changed the default setting to only run at 60% of the unused processor time. Members are able to modify the cpu time from 10% to 100% to suit their own needs by making a change to their device profile. However, anyone making the change to more than 60% should monitor their computer to ensure that the change has not had an adverse impact on the computer. If it does then they should revert back to the default settings.

I give up ... sigh!

I'm a stubborn old git these days ... I have found a very nice solution.

and, from the same "developer" I am using his own manager.

AND, this is the best bit ... they 64bit Windows

I also dumped WCGs version of BONK for Berkeley's BOINC client also 64bit.

Seem to have dropped the (does not work as intended) GPU usage thankfully.

Quite pleased with the results, a lot happier I can actually control temps to my liking.

Thaks everyone. In all honestly i'm a little disappointed

The dual core intel in the spare bedroom is running on a wireless connection

The signeal strength according to the sotware is excellent 100%

However it keeps dropping out completely according to BOINC so uploading is stopping randomly throughout the night....

Another 12results should have been returned from that PC alone

Any suggestions about the wireless issue?

Ive looked at power saving features and alike and they seem fine. Even turned windows defender. (its a VISTA machine)

ok, maybe not ... if you getting dropouts @ 100%, then there is no other solution than to try cabling it, just to eliminate it not the modem.

It'll catch up eventually.

Well, try out that program I found, BoincTasks.

Just untick the box of the WCG manager to load at startup and tick the box for BT (boinctasks) to load the client instead. Would be nicely surprised if it connect no problem,
