Hey peeps I popped over to the crunchy forum the other day and I saw people talking about doing a sapphire which is 2 years crunching in under a month on there 8 and 12 core setups, Surely that can't be right can it...

I agree with you CL, it defeats the object that everyone does their best with the equipment they have and the the amount of runtime they can afford. We have roast pork with crackling, roast & mashed potatoes and the same veg Broccoli and carrot sticks followed by treacle tart and custard

Wow! Quite a feat, but I would guess those powerful 8 and 12 core rigs are more than capable

It would be a shame if crunching were to become "all about the points" imho, because it is so easy to lose potential crunchers who might feel daunted, or think their contributions would be too little to matter.

A pity, because just allowing the PC to crunch in the background, when it would be switched-on anyway, is a great contribution to the crunchy-cause. (As everyone here knows.) I certainly cannot imagine any team failing to warmly welcome a "part-time" cruncher. Every unit crunched is important and useful to the researchers, and ultimately, to the whole population.

I rarely think about what BOINC is doing and frequently forget it's even running, when I'm doing other things. Granted, I pop into Cruncher's Corner daily, but that's because it has become a habit - and tbh, the social chit-chat is enjoyable...... as are Mucks' breakfasts.......and your yummy-sounding roast dinners CL and Bootneck!!
