then I realised I beat them servers to the punch and got the returns before they have their coffee break and update
must try and have a lay-in one Sunday

Yes, since I shifted on to WCG my WU's are typically 20-30 hours long. I think someone said something once about the fa@h generally being long ones & I'm only getting WU's from them now. But as you said, it may take it's time, but it does get it done in the end

Would it be possible to download say 4 days of Boinc work, crunch off line & then go on-line to download them to WCG?

Yes, its possible, just change the 'days to connect to network' in your BOINC Profile for that pc on the WCG website, under My Grid>Device Manager>Device Profiles.
BUT, i see no need for you to do that to be honest.

I actually have mine set to 1 Day (and have done since i installed BOINC), But in BOINC itself i have it set on 'Always Avaliable'
That way, i get a days worth of work units. BUT it uploads them when they have finished. (As normal) I do this just incase the work unit servers or worse still my internet connection goes down.
