Way to add WinDef to right-click context menu?

Subject title pretty much sums it up. I want to add to my right-click context
menu, a shortcut to Windows Defender to have it scan the file/folder I'm
clicking on.

This subject was brought up on these groups way back - 2006 (I think) and
some bright soul had managed to do it albeit a crude solution but it worked.
Try as I may I can`t find it for you. I do know it involves playing with the
Explorer shell settings (no registry tweaks involved) and have found this
link which may be of interest to you. It tells you how to both remove
outdated context menu items and add them.

McAfee lists it as a green site. However FWIW I`m running IE8 and get an
ad.doubleclick.net security warning which signals a monitor of what links you
select for advertising puposes.

Thanks for the link. I see it mainly dealt with outlook and attaching a
message... I bookmarked it and I'll look at it later but I'm not sure I can
repeat those parameters for making Win Defender scan.

The referal to doubleclick was just a way of getting an ad on that
site...they do that a lot no biggie I have a hosts file that keeps out that
crud anyways... the site extremetech itself is quite safe.

Thanks again.

It does indeed but the principle is the same. Stay tuned and I will give it
my best shot cos I did it once before but cannot remember the tricky bits -
was a long time ago and a few system resets since then. Whether or not the
later versons of WD will prevent is anyones guess. I seem to recall Bill
Sanderson referencing WD as being a `bolt on product` in XP - soo true. In
Vista the context menu option is available from the drop down arrow next to
Help I think.

I have often wondered whatever happened to the Power Toys Boys. Have they
been disbanded? Seems like a context menu option would have been right up
their street. Its been at version 2.10 for years now .......

OK I just assumed that having an anti-malware ap scan a file was very
different from having Outlook attach it in an email. This weekend I will
copy that simple code and see if I can "open" a file with WD and have it
scan...
