.wav file codec issue

Just got a new dell XPS laptop. Every time I play a .wav file, WMP says I am
missing a codec - but still plays the file with "errors". When it looks for
an appropriate codec, it finds an MPEG-2 video codec needs to be downloaded
(which costs $20). I have other computers and they both run wav's fine. Also,
I've installed both Pinnacle Studio 8 and NERO on all the comps. Most
programs either won't accept the wav files or will play with errors,
although the audio editing programs work just fine. I know Windows doesn't
require an MPEG-2 codec to play .wav fiels.
Any idea whats going on?

Realized the problem, had nothing to do with Windows - Digital Video Conerter
from Dazzle apparently screws up wav files (don't know how) - its what I get
for going cheap.
Thanks for the help
