Watching video clips through media player..

Ive recently bought a laptop and am having trouble watching stuff on media
player from the internet. If i click on a link to a stream, say for instance
football highlights, media player starts up but the picture quality is how i
can best compare to a camera photo negative with loads of different bright
colours.
Is there a setting i need to change on my laptop to sort this out?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have this same issue on my newly installed version of XP on my desktop. My
Media Player looks more like a zoomed in version of whatever is playing. I
see every pixel at a very large view. I need it to zoom out so I can see the
whole video. Would love to have an answer as well.
