WARNING the 3.8 Catalyst driver could kill your monitor!!!

well anyone, you have nice thoughts
but as an software and IT engineer I can do the statement that
* software can crash and destroy hardware *
I knew a certain poke adress with a certain value on the commodore 64 which
did die the c64 and with the timex /sinclair even so and the vic and some
selfdesigned computers
this was only possible of poor hardware design or wrong bridges or wrong
values from used motherboard pieces
so it's possible
so don't kill the messenger ;)

"Halt and catch fire".

But the point is that software can only damage badly designed hardware, and
monitors have been protecting themselves from invalid scan ranges for a LONG
time.

hi Ben,

you're right, but you've got quality and you\ve got quality :(
and of course it could be a mondaymornig product?

but software2hardware programmers has to be extra carefull to programm the
interface correct.
you must compare it with your own ability to overclock your pc- or
video-processor
oc too high ? := end of product

Nick ( from The Netherlands where also productfailures are sold (mostly
build in Asia) )

Monday morning product? Never heard that before, but would assume that
thats more about assembly than design, and only for hand-assembled items.

Fine, I agree. But that doesn't mean that you don't design products to deal
with out-of range errors - especially when they are so easy to achieve.

Well thats a little different. It's harder to protect a CPU from being
over-volted than it is to protect a monitor from incorrect scan ranges.
Anyway, these days the motherboard will shut down your CPU before it
over-heats and gets damaged (if you don't fit a heatsink then that really is
your fault), and I think there are processors that can throttle their own
speed according to thermal parameters that they measure themselves.
Oviously you can't protect your product from all forms of damage, but you
should make an attempt at the obvious ones that are readily fixable.

hi Ben,
a mondaymorning product, aka a fault not made by the (design)robot but by a
human, who has drinked a lot and slept bad that weekend and made a command
or thinking fault to start a proces or whatever.
so a sleepy human fault ;)

yes, sorry, I could find a genereal example
I'm now a thursdaymorning (timezones) human :) LOL

Nah, no such thing.. a human on the production line in this day and age?
Surely thats far too expensive :)

Utter bollocks. There was a poke for the Commodore PET which caused one of
the CIAs to go up in smoke due to a mistake in the circuit design, there is
no such poke for a C64, VIC or a Sinclair.

Hellraiser.............>

well, Hellraiser myabe in your dimension, in my dimension, it was ;)
I talk about in europeans versions ?
oh the good old PET, nice programming those characters ;)

I have Catv3.8 since day came out. I have 0% problems. My Monitor hasn't
blown up into small pieces nor my Video Card any Hotter?

Most this crap propaganda IMHO. And when A few visual bugs was notice in a
few games, the Nividiots screamed HAX0rz, cheators... ummm grow up.

I agree ATI drive base sucked as well as their cards up to the 8500
series.... then things changed.... Just many in the Dark Ages thinking
otherwise....

Besides I have my Monitor LOCKED at 85Hz up to 1280x1024 and
disabled/removed 1600x1200 which is unplayable resolution and below factory
default of 85Hz. LOCKEd is locked.

Me neither.

Oh, GTA Vice City and Splinter Cell have high frame rates me at 1600x1200
with AA and AF turned up - I love my 9800 Pro.

Either he is a complete dumbass or his 10 year old monitor finally died of
old age and he wants ATi to pay for a new monitor because his Mom didn't
give him his allowance LOL.

You are clearly a typical stupid teenager. I guess that's to be
expected of kids these days. Super attention deficit disorder...can't
seem to comprehend anything.
And your skillful choice of words clearly demonstrates it. Is that
what kids learn in English AP these days? If so, then our education
system is on its death kneels -_-

Now, please READ THIS CAREFULLY.
* SINCE WHEN IS A VIEWSONIC P225F a 10 year old monitor?" *.

How can a monitor be 10 years old when it went into production in 2001
?

Someone have an answer to that?

Now, as to whether the original poster was lying or not, well, that's
for another thread I'll start about viewsonic...

<Gibs> When you kill 6 people in Unreal Tournament
it is "MonsterKill", In Quake3 it is "Excellent",
in Counter-Strike it is "Kicked by console"

Simple fact of the matter is that the TRUTH HURTS doesn't it? Fact is that
I am old enough to be your father and you are the one who is probably still
in his teens with a broken monitor that your mother refuses to replace.

I have yet to see you actually post anthing remotely having to do with the
subject at hand so that tells me volumes right there. You have already lost
any argument you could have had so in frustration you resort to this. You
are here to spew forth personal attacks to take out your teenage
frustration.

Suggestion: Why don't you try masterbation or perhaps popping your pimples!
