Wanted: Recommendation for New MB

I'm giving my old P4C800 with P4 2.6C to my kids. Looking to build a new
Asus intel based PC. I want a fast system but not spend megabucks so a
notch or two from the cutting edge would be ok. Any recommendations for MB
and CPU combos?

ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe should be good for years, and a 550 or a 830.

If I had a grand+ to blow I’d get a P5WD2 Premium, a 660, and a ATi
850(or two with Crossfire?)
