Want to replace HP Scanjet 6200C

I have been on this formum quite a few times over the past two and a
half years.
I have an HP Scanjet 6200C. I use a Dell Dimension 8250 with Windows
XP-Pro and Service Pack 2.
The computer does not stay in contact with the scanner. Just today, I
scanned one photo which went ok but then contact was lost.
My question today is what scanner is out there that I can use to scan
the rest of about 15,000 photos and a couple of hundred newspaper
articles?
I do not need a negative or a slide scanner because I also possess a
CanoScan FS4000US.
Thank you.

Are you using USB or SCSI interface.
The USB interface should be the most reliable.

And are you using the latest software?

The USB interface on the HP 6200c is a hit or miss situation at best. I
purchase mine in 1999 and have never been able to connect via USB even with
the so called fixes. That said, I use a old Adaptec 2930 scsi card and have
had few connectivity problems. Just be sure to install a ASPI layer. The
downside is the cable length limitations.

I also have numerous photographs to scan and am in the market for a USB2
interface flatbed. I have been leaning towards the Epson Perfection 4490
Photo. Presently, it can be purchased for under $213 US at Circuit City.

Anyone have any experience with this model?
