want to recover backup copy of file in word vista

i was editing a document and then saved it. unfortunately i need the
origional version. i know word saves a backup copy of the origional version.
i need that one, what folder is it in? and what does word change the
extension to? "~$*****" etc. please help.

Word does not automatically save a backup copy of the previous
version unless you've explicitly enabled that option in Tools |
Options | Save (Word 2003 or earlier) or in Word Options |
Advanced (Word 2007). If you did enable the backup copy option,
then the previous version of "filename.doc" is saved in the same
folder as the current version under the name "backup of
filename.wbk". The ~$******.doc version is just a temporary
"owner" file that Word creates to identify who currently has the
file open... it does not contain any useful parts of your
previous or current document version.
