That's about enough to cover reviewing and discussing specifications,
and not even enough to start designing tables and relationships for
any established professional developer. It's downright insulting to
make such an offer with a rush demand.

Let me echo John's sentiments. What you describe is more than a simple
database that will require several hours to complete. I can't see it taking
less than 40 hours and, at any competent consultant's rate, you are talking
about something that will cost from $2,000 to $3,000 -- and much more
depending on the consultant.

Come on John, hardly any specs, wants it yesterday, AND is willing to pay a
whopping $100 dollars for it. Isn't that a dream client?

Makes me consider getting rid of my piece of cardboard with "Will program
for food" on it.

Scott,

With all due respect, I have to agree with John. Although I wouldnt be
surprised someone will respond to your offer. $100 is $100.
But experienced developers on this newsgroup would probably pass on it. I
made almost that much (net) last weekend in golf beating the hackers at a
local course here in Dallas.

Try rentacoder.com. Plenty of people there looking for exactly what you're
offering.

From the requirements you listed, I wonder why you dont just use Excel. IMO,
if an Access system can be built for you for $100, you could have simply
just used a spreadsheet and be done with it. This way you can save the $100,
bring it with you, and meet me at a golf course. I'll play ya.

Oh, I have a friend who wants to come to work for you. Ken Snell, where are
you? LOL

Maybe so, but I'm thinking that any database that can be built for $100 is
going to be a piece of junk.

Hey there used to be neighbor. I lived in Coppell for 5 years before moving
up to balmy Iowa.

If he wants to come to South Carolina, our office is under the Exit 51
overpass on I-85 (Look for the large cardboard box). Though not currently
looking for programmers, if we can string together enough of the paying gigs
like the one that started this thread, we can bring one on providing he or
she doesn't mind long hours, client abuse, and a quarterly bonus of day old
bakery goods guaranteed to not have been in the dumpster more than an hour.

To contact us, have the applicant stand on the bridge and holler down "Are
y'all awake?"

Small World!
I've lived in Dallas for 10 yrs. Actually played at Riverchase Golf Course
in Coppell.

Well, I never played golf at Riverchase -- gave up golf several years before
moving to Coppell -- but I've driven by it plenty of times.

LOL! When my department got laid off in 2001, I was so hard up for work,
that I put on my "consultant suit", made such a cardboard sign and stood at
the local I-95 interchange and took a picture of it! Sadly, I subsequently
lost the picture.

I personally cannot take the gig, and I'm sure you're negotiable, but here's
the magic triangle of how consulting works:

1. I can do it FAST
2. I can do it CHEAP
3. I can do it RIGHT.

You, as the client, must choose any two options.

Here's the picture in my mind.

I call.
He says go ahead.
I follow *exactly* what he wrote down and submit it.

Will he say:
1. "Thank You!" and send a check?
2. "That's not exactly what I meant."
3. "Didn't I tell you about ..."
4. "I only need one more thing."
5. "I only need a few more things."
6. (six months later) "It stopped working and it's your fault and I only
made one little change."

Multiple answers are accepted.
