Want to move from Windows XP to windows 2000

Kris

Hi:
I am trying to downgrade from Win XP to Windows 2000 as
most of the programs I work with are not supported by XP.
I am trying to use the Win 2k disk that I got with the
computer but it will not let me update or rate "downgrade"
to win 2k saying I have the latest software.

Can anyone suggest another way around it.
I went to format c:\ but won't let me says I have services
running.

Thanks.

Kris

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 CD-Rom or setup disks.
The set of four install disks can be created from your Win2k CD-rom; change
to the \bootdisk directory on the cd-rom and execute makeboot.exe (from dos)
or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Kris - as Dave implies, there's no way to "Downgrade" XP to W2k, or to
format the XP (or any other system's) partition from within the system
while it's running. So...a clean W2k install is your only option,
formatting the partition as Dave says you should.
