Want to get rid of firewall!

Hey guys, my problem is that I want to get rid of whatever is causing my
computer to act like it's firewalled.

I'm currently studying in Japan and have ADSL in the dorms. It seemed to be
firewalled, but no one else I asked really knew much about it, so I just kind
of accepted it and moved on. But recently one of my friends in Tokyo has
gotten a new internet connection, which her computer works perfectly on and
gets amazing speed. But when I connect, it still seems I am firewalled. Using
PC Flank's scanner (pcflank.com) all my ports are stealthed while hers are
closed.

I am not concerned with security, and just want to get rid of whatever is
causing this. I am using XP Professional and do not have SP2. I have XP's
built in firewall turned off on all my network connections. I have had Norton
Systemworks 2005 installed, but have uninstalled it.. not sure if there could
be lingering settings from that. I have gone into the registry but don't know
what to look for...

Anyways I have done all I can think of. Even gone through and checked every
setting I can find and matched it with the working computer. It's very
frustrating... PLEASE help!

I am not even going to ask why you want to run your computer on the internet
without protection!

Seems foolish to me.

.
start and run and type in msconfig and up top right
click services then below the list check hide all
microsoft services ,make a new post listing your third
party services(the items now showing on the list) we will
then know what firewall you need help removing.

Speed is not affected by a firewall.

Such a blanket statement - Performance of the system running a firewall is
always impacted by the firewall taking action. The more it has to work,
the more performance is lost for other tasks.

While most people MAY not notice the performance loss, on many marginal
systems it can easily be felt and measured.

This is the reason a barrier device is preferable as the FIRST line of
defense, it keeps most of it away from your internal network so that your
computer doesn't have to always protect itself.
