Want mouse hovering to reveal folder contents

Rather than have the mess of my 30 favorite applications, documents, &
folders displayed on my desktop, I would rather have just the top item in the
hierarchy visible.
When I hover my mouse over it, the next level down items would be revealed,
& so on.
All I would have to do is to click on the item I want to launch it (rather
like the Start menu).
This solution is clean in that I wouldn't have to open any folders that I
would later have to close. Thanks.

Right-click the taskbar, select 'Toolbars' and check 'Desktop'. Drag the toolbar to the right
until nothing but the name & chevron is displayed. A click of the chevron gives you access to the
Desktop contents. Then right click on the desktop and hide the icons for a completely clear
desktop.

You can also keep select items visible on the desktop and move the secondary items to another folder
and create a new toolbar from that folder.
